Syrian Emergency Relief Update

The Government of Canada has extended the deadline for matching funds for eligible donations to Canadian agencies working to provide relief to Syrians displaced within Syria and living as refugees in the surrounding countries to February 29, 2016.

Funds raised will provide assistance to help met the basic humanitarian needs of people affected by the conflict of Syria, including shelter, food, health care and water and will also provide protection and education for conflict-affected people in Syria and millions of refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

PWRDF continues to respond to the needs of displaced Syrians through the ACT Alliance and the Canadian Woodgrains Bank, as well as through its long-time partner Refuge Egypt in Cairo. The ACT Alliance appeal for 2016 is a continuation of its 20156 appeal and PWRDF has approved CAD $300,000 from designated donations for the 2016 appeal.

Thanks to the generosity of Anglicans in Canada, PWRDF has received close to $490,000 for the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis.

Syrian Emergency Relief

As the winter months approach, the need for warm bedding and clothing becomes even greater for those displaced by the Syrian refugee crisis.   1.2 million Syrian refugees currently live in Lebanon, making up 20% of the population of that country at the moment. The influx of so many people into the country has led to social, political, and economic problems.   The PWRDF continues to provide relief through ACT Alliance, and the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) to refugees in Lebanon and Jordan, as well as to displaced people within Syria, and to other refugees through Refugee Egypt in Cairo.

The Government of Canada has created the Syria Emergency Relief Fund and will match every eligible dollar donated by individual Canadians to registered Canadian charities in response to the impact of the conflict in Syria up to $100 million until December 31, 2015. For every dollar donated to PWRDF, the Canadian dollar will put one dollar into its Syria Emergency Relief Fund.

Thank you – because of the generosity of Anglicans in Canada, $170,00 has been received by PWRDF for the Syrian refugee crisis. Please watch for updates on the PWRDF’s response to the situation at www.pwrdf.org
